D.Y.D.

D.Y.D.

It’s an acronym I’ve thought long and hard about, or at least that is my excuse for not having written in a while. Barring the whole move, I really have had a lot of time to write. And plenty to write about.

But how does one describe living west of the Mississippi? How do you capture the fact that we get to see snow-capped mountains on a daily basis? What words would accurately portray the active lifestyles of people we now call our neighbors?

Let me back up a bit…it all started when I was driving back from the airport after dropping Adam off for his week of traveling.

Wait, what’s that? Isn’t that the reason you guys moved in the first place? To cut down on all that travel?

Oh, irony. But let’s rack up those frequent flyers while we can, eh? *ahem, back the story…

So I’m driving home and realize at the exact right moment that I’m about to drive off the road.

Now, I’m not a necessarily bad driver, in fact I believe my driving skills are far above that of the average U.S. citizen (thanks Dad!). I don’t speed too much, I don’t drive too aggressively (I prefer the term “offensive” driving…because the best defense is…you got it!).

Anyway, point is, nearly driving off the road is not the norm for me. But how in the HELL are you expected to drive well when the highways leading west, leading home, offer the most spectacularly breathtaking views of the Rockies???

Could you drive in a straight line looking at that?? Be honest…

There’s a reason I scoured the internet for a better picture…see above. #droiddoesn’t

So at this most poignant of moments I uttered “Damn You Denver!” as I hastily corrected my cars trajectory and tried to stop staring at those gorgeous mountain peaks.

D.Y.D. was born.

I find this phrase comes to mind anytime I catch a glimpse of the mountains and realize how close by they are. It also pops up whenever Adam and I notice the incredibly svelte Denver bodies in those wonderful contraptions known as biking/running pants – hello new motivation to work out – D.Y.D.!

Could more be said? Of course! But for now we have to get packed for a weekend full of skiing…a very sarcastic D.Y.D. would fit at the end of that sentence perfectly…
